about

In 2014, Joel and I were tossing around the idea of writing together. The concept was simple: I'd write and play a song on guitar, and he'd write and sing lyrics. If he wrote the music, I'd write and sing.

This was an unused song from that project. He's playing guitar and I'm singing. Forgive my off-key vocals at points. This is literally just us practicing the song. I never considered putting it up for people to listen, but I decided, meh, what the hell?

lyrics

Here's a letter that I wrote when the leaves were turning green
In handwriting I think I recognize.
I've grown tired of writing for you.
I've grown tired, y'know?

This is usually the time when
I'd grab my guitar and
Butcher all your favorite songs all night,
But please forgive me if
It doesn't sound quite right.
No, I don't feel like singing tonight.

Here's an empty metaphor about the changing colors of the leaves
In place of something meaningful I could have said.
What does it say if my favorite holiday
Is the one when I get to be someone who isn't me
For just one day?
